Supporting Families and Individuals with Disability Advocacy
Support, advocate, and transform lives in the Cedar Valley.
Support, advocate, and transform lives in the Cedar Valley.
Hello, I’m Ben Snyder, President of The Arc of Cedar Valley. Thank you for visiting our website.
For more than 70 years, The Arc of Cedar Valley has been a champion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Waterloo and Cedar Falls area. Our story began in 1954, when a determined group of parents gathered in a basement with a powerful vision: that their children deserved to be seen, supported, and included in all aspects of society.
From those early grassroots efforts, The Arc became one of the founding organizations responsible for laying the foundation of disability services in our community. We've been at the forefront of advocacy, inclusion, and support - working to break down barriers and build a more just and accessible society.
Today, while we celebrate the progress made, we also recognize that our work is far from over. The fight for equity, dignity, and opportunity must continue - stronger than ever.
We invite you to stand with us. Whether through advocacy, volunteerism, or partnership, your support helps ensure that the legacy of inclusion and empowerment continues for the next 70 years and beyond.
Join us in shaping a future where everyone belongs.

Ben, who grew up with Cerebral Palsy, brings lived experience and a strong passion for advocacy—especially around physical accessibility. After receiving care through Shriners Hospital for scoliosis, he earned his Bachelor of Social Work in 2013 and began his journey with The Arc as an intern. He's served on the board since 2013. He continues to support inclusive communities through ongoing volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
Vicki has been a member of The Arc of Cedar Valley since 2017.
Throughout her time with us, she’s learned that individuals with disabilities often have many abilities—their challenges are usually limited to just one or two areas.
She looks forward to helping address those challenges while supporting and celebrating their strengths.
Vicki hopes many others in the Cedar Valley will join in this meaningful work.
